The
Children’s Ministry affords the children of Butler Street CME Church an
opportunity to participate in Sunday Morning Worship Service through its various
ministries, such as Acolytes, Children’s Choir, and the Children’s Usher
Board. Additionally,
other ministries provided our children are Sunday School, Vacation Bible School,
Liturgical Dance, Children’s Meditation and Children’s Church.
The children also participate in special activities such as the Annual
Easter Program, Black History Month, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and the
Christmas Program.
ACOLYTES
The role of an Acolyte is
one of distinction and service. Members
carry the Christian flag and banner, light the candles on the alter, and assist
the pastor during the morning worship service.
Other components of the Acolyte Program include community and fellowship
activities for children ages 6-12. Under
the direction of Sis. Karen Wilcox, the Acolytes meet each Saturday before the
first Sunday of the month at 12:00 noon.
NURSERY
DEPARTMENT
The
nursery is open during the morning worship service on 1st, 3rd,
4th and 5th Sunday of each month in the first unit.
On the 2nd Sunday, Children’s Church is held.
All children, ages 18 months to 5 years old, are lovingly welcomed into
the nursery. On
occasion, if have sufficient staff, we can accept a child less than 12 months of
age. In
the nursery, we have a devotion period, which includes a prayer and songs, arts
& crafts, snacks and a movie.
We
are always looking for more volunteers.

CHILDREN’S
USHER BOARD
The
Children’s Usher Board is made up of boys and girls 6 – 11 years of age.
They are the official doorkeepers in the church and assist the pastor and
congregation in any way they can. The
ushers are responsible for admitting and greeting parishioners who enter the
house of worship and attend to their comfort while therein, distribute worship
bulletins, on occasion escort people to their seats, lift the offerings and
other duties as assigned by the pastor. The
Children’s Usher Board serves each 4th Sunday during the 11:00 a.m.
Worship Service under the direction of Sisters Anita W. Wright, Cheryl D. Wilcox
and Belita Paige. Their motto is
“service” and they give of themselves to the congregation to meet their
needs during the Worship Service.
Pamela P. Golson CHILDREN’S CHOIR
The
Pamela P. Golson
Children’s Choir, under the direction of Sisters Pamela Golson, Trishla
Wooten, Marguerite Pickens and Bro. Clifford E. Littleton, allows children ages
5 – 12 to express their praises to God through song.
The choir rehearses every Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
(with a summer break) and sings each Second Sunday of the month.
LITURGICAL
DANCE MINISTRY
The
Children’s Dance Ministry, under the direction of Sisters Leola Lynn-Hatcher
and Andrea Lee, affords the children and youth of the church (ages 6-18) an
opportunity to express dance as an element of worship and praise.
CHILDREN’S
CHURCH
The
Children’s Church Ministry was developed to provide children up to the age of
12 an opportunity to explore the Bible and worship God in a setting with
activities designed especially for them.
