The Children’s Ministry affords the children of Butler Street CME Church an opportunity to participate in Sunday Morning Worship Service through its various ministries, such as Acolytes, Children’s Choir, and the Children’s Usher Board.  Additionally, other ministries provided our children are Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Liturgical Dance, Children’s Meditation and Children’s Church.  The children also participate in special activities such as the Annual Easter Program, Black History Month, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and the Christmas Program.

ACOLYTES

The role of an Acolyte is one of distinction and service.  Members carry the Christian flag and banner, light the candles on the alter, and assist the pastor during the morning worship service.  Other components of the Acolyte Program include community and fellowship activities for children ages 6-12.  Under the direction of Sis. Karen Wilcox, the Acolytes meet each Saturday before the first Sunday of the month at 12:00 noon.

NURSERY DEPARTMENT

The nursery is open during the morning worship service on 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th Sunday of each month in the first unit.  On the 2nd Sunday, Children’s Church is held.  All children, ages 18 months to 5 years old, are lovingly welcomed into the nursery.  On occasion, if have sufficient staff, we can accept a child less than 12 months of age.  In the nursery, we have a devotion period, which includes a prayer and songs, arts & crafts, snacks and a movie.

We are always looking for more volunteers.  If you would like to working the nursery, or fill in during absences, please contact Sis. Serena Sims

CHILDREN’S USHER BOARD

The Children’s Usher Board is made up of boys and girls 6 – 11 years of age.  They are the official doorkeepers in the church and assist the pastor and congregation in any way they can.  The ushers are responsible for admitting and greeting parishioners who enter the house of worship and attend to their comfort while therein, distribute worship bulletins, on occasion escort people to their seats, lift the offerings and other duties as assigned by the pastor.  The Children’s Usher Board serves each 4th Sunday during the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service under the direction of Sisters Anita W. Wright, Cheryl D. Wilcox and Belita Paige.  Their motto is “service” and they give of themselves to the congregation to meet their needs during the Worship Service.

Pamela P. Golson CHILDREN’S CHOIR

The Pamela P. Golson Children’s Choir, under the direction of Sisters Pamela Golson, Trishla Wooten, Marguerite Pickens and Bro. Clifford E. Littleton, allows children ages 5 – 12 to express their praises to God through song.  The choir rehearses every Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. (with a summer break) and sings each Second Sunday of the month.

LITURGICAL DANCE MINISTRY

The Children’s Dance Ministry, under the direction of Sisters Leola Lynn-Hatcher and Andrea Lee, affords the children and youth of the church (ages 6-18) an opportunity to express dance as an element of worship and praise.

CHILDREN’S CHURCH

The Children’s Church Ministry was developed to provide children up to the age of 12 an opportunity to explore the Bible and worship God in a setting with activities designed especially for them.  Minister Jerome Morgan and Sis. Gloria H. Lee coordinate Children’s Church.
