The West Side Board
is one of the oldest
auxiliaries at
Butler Street. Some
of our mothers were
founders of the
board. We basically
minister to the sick
at their home or at
the hospital. We
visit them and pray
with them. We send
cards and flowers to
cheer them up and
extend a helping
hand where needed.
It’s the human touch
in this world that
counts, the touch of
your hand and mine,
which means far more
to the fainting
heart than shelter
and bread and wine.
For shelter is gone
when the night is
over and bread lasts
only a day. But the
touch of a hand and
a sound of a voice¾sings
on in the soul
always.
On holidays, we give
food baskets to the
elderly and needy
families. We are a
diverse group of
young women working
for Christ.
Officers elected
annually.
The purpose of the
East Side Board is
to fellowship one
with another as we
do during our annual
Christmas
celebration and to
provide help to
others in their time
of need. We
currently support
Our Lady of
Perpetual Help Home
and will continue
this service as we
seek to help persons
in need. We are
hard working and
invite those who
wish to help build
up God’s Kingdom to
come and join this
board.
Le Centre Cercle was
officially organized
under the pastorate
of Rev. Lewis W. Jay
on March 8, 1974, as
a participating
young adult club of
Butler Street
Christian Methodist
Episcopal Church.
Though currently
well past the young
adult age group, Le
Centre Cercle
members have
continued to be
committed to the
overall objective of
the fellowship and
the church.
The overall
objective of Le
Centre Cercle is to
facilitate
fellowship and to
promote Christian
growth. Our motto
is Spiritual growth
through worship,
Christian
fellowship, and
service.
Le Centre Cercle
meets the second
Saturday in each
month (September
through May) at 3:00
P.M., in the church
annex or in or in
the home of a
member.
Le Centre Cercle has
been responsible for
initiating and/or
implementing many
projects, activities
and ministries at
Butler Street.
These include, but
are not limited to:
the renovation of
the First Unit of
the Church, Le
Centre Cercle
Scholarship Fund
(which is now the
Butler Street C.M.E.
Church Scholarship
Ministry,
coordinated by LCC);
Annual Senior
Citizens
Pre-thanksgiving
Dinner; Spring Fling
Fellowship for
Seniors; Christmas
Caroling to sick and
shut-in church
members, and raising
funds via the
Gentleman’s Cook Off
and Café Le Centre
for Butler Street’s
after school and
scholarship
ministries.
Le Centre Cercle is
a very rewarding
group to be a part
of. LCC members are
committed to grow
spiritually through
worship, Christian
fellowship and
service. Officers
elected annually.
The Pastor’s Aid
Board assists in the
care and comfort of
the pastor and his
family. We offer
aid when needed, to
the pastor and his
family. This
support ministry
also co-partners
with the pastor in
ministry.
The function of the
Health/Wellness and
the Cancer Awareness
Ministry is to
educate and make
people aware of
early detection of
cancer and the
impact it has on
individuals,
families and the
community at large.
Our goal is to make
sure we provide
information about
all of the resources
that are available
for those in need of
this service.
Resource information
is made available
about cancer
diagnosis and
treatment and all
facets of health and
wellness.
Bells for
Remembrance is a
celebration held on
Mother’s Day to
stress the
importance of
mammography for
African American
women. We emphasize
awareness of
Prostrate Cancer in
September, National
Breast Cancer in
October and Diabetes
in November. Each
month a health
article appears in
the church bulletin
and our health
resource table is
available at all
times. |
